​We seek a highly motivated biophysics/bioengineering postdoctoral fellow to join our interdisciplinary computational and experimental group which is engaged in the DARPA ECHO project, the MoTrPAC consortium and other large-scale programs.
 
The fellow will study device development for nanopore epigenetic assays and other biophysical assays, with opportunities for publication, patenting and commercial development.
 
The successful candidate should have a PhD in biophysics, bioengineering, chemistry, physics, engineering, or a closely related discipline and experience with nanopore technology with sequencing (solid-state and protein pores for applications in nucleic acids and proteins).
 
Experience with Oxford Nanopore, micro- and nano- fluidics; molecular and cellular biology; semiconductor processing; MEMS; micro- and nano- devices; low-noise, phase-sensitive lock-in measurements; programming in MATLAB and LABVIEW and working knowledge of biophysical and bio-characterization techniques (such as AFM, HPLC, LC-MS and functional assays) are desirable.

Job Summary:
We are seeking a proven self-starter that can perform independent, wellcontrolledresearch as part of a multi-disciplinary technology developmentteam, with a focus on the use and modeling of solid-state nanopores for detection and interpretation of DNA translocations. Your work will be integral to the design and optimization of the world’s first integrated DNAbased data storage microchip.
 
Tasks and responsibilities:
• Design, conduct, trouble-shoot and analyze solid-state nanopore DNA translocation experiments.
• Assist with modeling of solid-state nanopore DNA translocation events.
• Contribute to the design of microfluidic devices with integrated solid-state
nanopores.
• Assist with the integration of molecular biology protocols into microfluidic
devices.
• Maintain records and prepare presentations for providing technical
updates, data analysis, conclusions and recommendations.
• Lead collaborations with 3rd parties in industry and/or academia.
• The successful candidate will be self-motivated, dedicated, and enthusiastic, with the ability to effectively communicate with scientists from different disciplines. The successful candidate should have a passion for scientific excellence, a committed work ethic, and an assertive but respectful personality.
 
Preferred experiential background:
• Use of solid-state nanopores for the study of DNA &/or protein translocations.
• Modeling of pore characteristics and DNA translocations through solidstate nanopores.
• Fabrication and characterization of solid-state nanopores.
• Surface chemistry and science, surface modification and metrology.
• Expertise in microfluidics and electrochemistry is highly desirable.
• Industry experience is desired, but not required.
• Experience in building, testing & troubleshooting analog circuits.
• Background in physics, electronics, digital signal processing, statistics,
programming, algorithm implementation.

Preferred educational background:
• A Ph.D. in Physics (Biophysics) or related discipline.
• Post-doctoral experience desired, but not required.

Research Group Description:
After re-joining Nanjing University at the end of 2018, I am now establishing a new research group which focuses on the development of novel electrochemical measurement methods to reveal the characteristics and dynamics of single entities, as well as the design and application of single molecule interface. Research areas include, but are not limited to, nanopore single molecule electroanalysis, biointerface spectroelectrochemistry and integrated biosensors. Job Requirements:
  1. Have a strong desire to work in academia (compulsory);
  2. Received comprehensive research training from top universities (compulsory);

  4. Previous research experiences in any of the following subjects: electrochemistry, optics, biology, nanotechnology, electrical engineering, artificial intelligence. (optional)

Primary Job Duties: 
Design and perform experiments, analyze data, write papers, deliver presentations, etc.

Job Requirements:
  • Degree in a biology or engineering field such as Biophysics, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Computational Biology, or Biomedical Science (MS or higher).
  • Experience with electrophysiology or nanopores (preferable nanopore-based single molecular detection) is strongly preferred.
  • Computer programming skillsets are a plus (python, matlab, labview).
