Postdoctoral Researcher (Dual Nanopore Technolog) at McGill University

The Reisner and Sladek groups at the McGill Dept of Physics and the McGill Genome Center have an NIH-funded postdoctoral position available to develop a dual nanopore device technology. The Reisner group (Dept, of Physics) is expert at developing nanofluidic devices for single molecule measurement and control. The Sladek group (McGill Genome Center) is expert in developing and applying new genomic and proteomics technologies to elucidate complex diseases.
This project is also in collaboration with Nooma Bio, a nanopore technology company in Santa Cruz CA and the Bhattacharya simulation group at the University of Central Florida, providing expertise in nanopore simulation to benchmark experiments.
The applicant should have a Ph.D. degree (ideally not older than three years) in one of the following fields: experimental condensed matter physics, applied physics, biophysics, bioengineering and any other related disciplines deemed relevant. Skills possessed in any of the following will be considered strong assets: (1) nanopore technology, (2) measurement of pA-nA level current signals, (3) single-molecule experimentation and (4) nanofabrication.

Graduate position: Studies in Computational Physics/Nanotechnology at Gracheva Lab at Clarkson University

​About the Project
The Physics Department seeks a Graduate Student with a start date as early as January 2022 (who will be supported by a Teaching Assistantship if successful), with a background in Computational Physics and Nanotechnology. Familiarity with computational methods, a programming language and previous experience in computer modeling is required. Applicants should have an interest in bionanotechnology. The successful applicant will work under supervision of Professor Maria Gracheva (Computational Lab page: https://people.clarkson.edu/~mgrachev/research.html) on computer simulation problems in the area of solid state membranes for filtering, identification and characterization of nanoparticles and biological molecules. 
A graduate Teaching Assistantship (TA) involves about 20 hours of work each week and qualifications include good interpersonal skills and good to excellent command of English. The TA may be asked to participate in research projects in addition to teaching duties. Health insurance is provided through the Clarkson Plan which is the same for all Clarkson employees. 
Clarkson University is a private, national research University leading in technological education and sustainable economic development. Clarkson offers graduate programs in Arts & Sciences, Business, Education, Engineering, and Health Sciences, with onsite, online and hybrid modes of study. Funding Notes
The selected applicant will received a tuition waiver, along with a stipend of approximately $25,000 per year.

Our group is devoted to developing the cutting-edge electrochemical instrumentations and advanced electrochemical measurement methods at single-molecule level. Examples include Nanopore-based Single-molecule Analysis, Stochastic Collision Electrochemistry, Bio-interface Spectroelectrochemistry, and Integrated Biosensors in combination with advanced computational pipeline to reveal the characteristics and dynamics of single entities, as well as the design and application of nanopore-based Single Biomolecule Interface for single-molecule reactions and protein sequencing.

Postdoctoral Research Fellows
The salary range is starting 300-350kRMB/year (46,000-53,000 USD/year) depending on experience for two years. The first three (3) months of employment serve as an Introductory Evaluation Period.
 
Job Requirements:
Have a strong desire to work in academia;
Received comprehensive research training from top universities;
Demonstrated a high-level of skill in team-working, communication, and academic writing;
The candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant field (Electrochemistry, Biophysics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Organic Chemistry). Strong scientific programming skills (e.g., Python, Matlab, LabVIEW) are essential. Experience in electrophysiology or nanopores (preferable nanopore-based single molecular detection) would be beneficial.

​We seek a highly motivated biophysics/bioengineering postdoctoral fellow to join our interdisciplinary computational and experimental group which is engaged in the DARPA ECHO project, the MoTrPAC consortium and other large-scale programs.
 
The fellow will study device development for nanopore epigenetic assays and other biophysical assays, with opportunities for publication, patenting and commercial development.
 
The successful candidate should have a PhD in biophysics, bioengineering, chemistry, physics, engineering, or a closely related discipline and experience with nanopore technology with sequencing (solid-state and protein pores for applications in nucleic acids and proteins).
 
Experience with Oxford Nanopore, micro- and nano- fluidics; molecular and cellular biology; semiconductor processing; MEMS; micro- and nano- devices; low-noise, phase-sensitive lock-in measurements; programming in MATLAB and LABVIEW and working knowledge of biophysical and bio-characterization techniques (such as AFM, HPLC, LC-MS and functional assays) are desirable.
